Jess + Wes || Engagement + Family Session || Standley Lake, Colorado

Jess and Wes are engaged to be married, with a wedding planned for October in Vail, Colorado. We wanted a beautiful outdoor location for their engagement and family session, originally thinking we'd shoot near the Flatirons in Boulder, but the permit process for that area was taking a tad too long, and was actually a bit of a hassle, so we decided on a location closer to their home in Westminster. Standley Lake is a beautiful natural area in the middle of a rather urban landscape- it was definitely a surprise for me when I first drove into the parking lot from a busy road. I had never been there, and I probably wouldn't have known it existed if Jess hadn't suggested it. I'm so glad she did, though! It might be my new favorite place to do engagement sessions! We saw a bunch of wildlife, including a fox trotting along the lake, looking for her next meal. It was a truly beautiful setting for this fun, laid-back family and engagement shoot. The boys had fun tromping through the mud (there was LOTS of mud) and we had the place to ourselves to photograph wherever we wanted. Wes and Jess are super cute together, and had fun getting photos taken of the two of them while their boys played in the background, stopping only to fling mud at each other or make silly faces behind the camera. I love photographing people in love, and the joy shared between Wes and Jess was infectious, and the love they share as a family was warm and welcoming, and I'm looking forward to their beautiful wedding this October.
We're still booking weddings for 2018 - mostly elopements and fall or winter weddings- but we're also starting to book up for 2019! yaaaay!
